California

Background

The California Air Resource Board enacted the Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Engine and Vehicle Omnibus Regulation in January of 2024.

Status of Regulations

Since then, ten other states have adopted the regulations under a federal waiver. However, several states have delayed enforcement, in whole or in part, because they recognize that the regulations are economically and technologically infeasible.

The regulations are not incentivizing truck manufacturers to build electric trucks that meet a tow truck’s performance and safety standards and have led to an 80% decline in combustion truck sales.

If states want to avoid California’s massive decline in combustion engine sales, political leaders nationwide need to send a message to California Governor Gavin Newsom that his economically and technologically infeasible regulations threaten small businesses, jobs, and the motoring public.
